Tap Tap, When Will The Eggs Hatch?

It’s official, we have plugged in the incubator, gentle rotated and secured our 12 fertilized eggs and adjusted their environment to 98-100 degrees F with about 50% humidity.  We are all new at this so it will be a true science experiment. None of this would have been possible without the awesome Chrispeels family!!  Kia (3rd) and Myles (1st)  Chrispeel and their parents have gone out of their way to procure the eggs, incubator, instructions and most importantly, the inspiration to try something new!

So, here’s what we know so far:

  • The eggs should hatch in 21 days.
  • The eggs need to be rotated 3 times per day for the first 18 days.
  • The temperature must remain between 98-100 degrees F.
  • The humidity should be 50% the first 18 days and 70% for the last 3-4 days.  (Keeping the humidity at the correct %  is  challenging.)
  • All the eggs might notl hatch.

What else should we be aware of?  Do you have any experience with hatching chickens?? Would you like to participate in our experiment? Please stop by B-8 to observe, share and of course learn..

( P.S.  This is a great, last minute science fair idea if there is anyone out there that needs an project still…………)
